You guys! This is a "Meet the People" I have just been dying to tell you about, and I am SO excited for you to meet this cute gal! Seriously! Not only is she amazingly talented, but she is one of those people you immediately want to be friends with! So let me tell you about her!
Meet Alisha Shaw.
Alisha is a seriously talented family photographer here is Southern Utah! She specializes in newborns, children, and families. Besides taking gorgeous photos and being a blast to spend an hour with, let me tell you one thing that really sets her apart: She LOVES extended family shoots!
You may think, what's the big deal? Let me tell you, extended family shoots are not every photographers favorite. In fact, it takes a talented photographer to do them, and a really talented photographer to love doing them! Alisha says they really are fantastic chaos! She loves seeing the relationships. "It is so fun to see who looks like their grandmother and who has their dads mannerisms." A lot of photographers look at these shoots as a sprint to the finish line hoping to catch all the important photos but Alisha lives in the moment of them enjoying the relationships she is getting a peak at.
Alisha has a beautiful studio in St. George where she does a lot of sessions, but you also see her all over Southern Utah shooting families outdoors.
Photography is her jam, but there is so much more to Alisha! She is a mama to 3 darling kiddos that are growing up way too fast! But, they are still her biggest cheerleaders. She was raised here locally and loves watching the growth that is constantly happening. She chose to stay here and raise a family, loving the family friendly feel of Southern Utah. She loves dancing in the kitchen, eating M&M's, trying every new flavor of oreos with her family, adores Christmas, and is always having fun.
Speaking of Christmas... you NEED to know about this if you have kids! On November 12th and 13th she is doing her annual Magic of Christmas Photos. Your child gets to go and meet Santa. They will get to hear stories from him, talk to him, ask him questions, and share in the magic of Christmas all while she takes beautiful pictures that you will treasure! These shoots are quick to fill up, so if you are interested I would get on her schedule now!
A lot of people wonder, why be a photographer? Alisha is a photographer because she loves to capture the important moments in someone's life. She loves capturing the relationships that you have right now, because they are always changing. Then you can look back and see pictures, and within the pictures the memories. The memories of your kids, before they were self conscious, and still had big goofy smiles. The memories of your kids before they didn't fit in your lap anymore. The pictures that make you smile every time you see them.
I have Alisha do my family photos, and they are amazing! The photos she took before my son was born are still on the wall because I love them so much! I keep adding pictures to the wall as my kids are born, but she makes it so hard to take down the old ones. You just love them that much!
Often people, myself included, want to wait until they have lost the baby weight, or until they are down that last 10 pounds, and put off their shoot. Alisha says it perfectly when she says, "Get your pictures taken, don't wait until you are the size you want to be. Your family and friends love you now, and they love you exactly how you are". Capture the memories you are having now, and then capture more later. Don't miss an opportunity to have a photo hold a memory for you!
Now, the hardest part for me when it comes to family pictures is choosing the pictures I love the most and getting them up on the wall. Alisha makes this part cake! She will sit down with you and go through your pictures to help you choose your favorites, pick sizes, and she will even come to your home and hang them on your wall for you! Yes, you heard that right, she will help you get those pictures to be on your wall because she really believes that they give your kids a sense of belonging. Pictures on the wall complete a home and fill it with memories. She doesn't just snap some pictures and mail you a CD, she is part of the process from the beginning to the end.
While I am at it, let's talk about the beginning and the dreaded outfit choosing. I think it is most moms least favorite part. Don't let it be. Alisha will help you style your shoot from helping with colors to patterns, to making sure the outfits will look good with the location you choose.
Aside from photography, she teaches workshops, private mentoring, and guest speaks at other conferences on photography, multi-level-marketing, boutique business, and branding. This is where I can really add my two cents. I did private mentoring with her several years ago and it was gold! She taught me so much and really helped me launch my business. I had no idea what to expect, and was hoping to just organize the chaos in my head with all the photography information I had learned over the years. One last thing: Coming this January! She is teaching a Children's Photography Class on Learning to you your own camera. They will learn lighting, and composition as well as how to take great pictures on their camera! It is for kids 10 and up and would be the perfect Christmas Gift! I only wish my kiddos were older!
