My usual St. Patrick's Day traditions with the kids start with a trip to the grocery store to buy corned beef and a box of Lucky Charms. So this year I thought I might add some Irish words of wisdom and advice (in my best Irish accent, of course!) to the breakfast and dinner table.
A Wish for a Friend Wishing you a rainbow
For sunlight after showers—
Miles and miles of Irish smiles
For golden happy hours—
Shamrocks at your doorway
For luck and laughter too,
And a host of friends that never ends
Each day your whole life through!
Irish Proverbs: Lose an hour in the morning and you’ll be looking for it all day. It’s no use boiling your cabbage twice. It’s a dirty bird that won’t keep its own nest clean. Never bolt your door with a boiled carrot. Lie down with dogs and you’ll rise with fleas. You must take the little potato with the big potato. If God sends you down a stony path, may he give you strong shoes.
There's nothing so bad that it couldn't be worse.
However long the day, night must fall.
An Old Irish Blessing
May the road rise up to meet you.May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
