My kids are really into shows with animals in them right now and Disney does a pretty great job of supplying top notch picks for my kids. One of my favorite as a child was just released on Digital, Blu-ray and DVD in stores and online. I have been waiting to show my kids the new, Disney's The Lion King all year and was beyond excited to show them this amazing show. Spoiler Alert: It did more than deliver, it was a hit!
We received the new release a little before it hit the shelves and I was extra excited to let my kiddos watch it. If we are being completely honest, I was just as excited as they were. Since then my son hasn't stopped being a "lion" and rawr-ing around the house, and my daughter asks daily for me to paint her face like a lion again. They have fallen in love with the story of Lion King, which may have also initiated my son climbing on the table to announce that he is "The Lion King" before and after every meal.
The Lion King was visually incredible in the original animated version that we have all loved throughout the years, but it doesn't even compare to the beauty that this version brings. From the beginning with "Circle of Life" you are sucked in to the movie and you can't help but smile as you sing along to your favorite songs.
After showing the movie to my kids, I had to spread the love. I took the movie to the library for 50 more kids to enjoy. We made quite the party out of it with fun treats, face painting, and movie snacks. The kids and parents loved the movie.
The vocal performances from Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar and Beyonce as Nala were flawless while Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumba bring out all the laughter you can remember from the original. The voice acting was really spot on with all your characters making for a truly dynamite cast.
It was incredible to see these characters looking so life like. The animals in the new The Lion King film looked so real that I had to remind myself that they weren't real at all. My kids? They still think they were real animals. The African scenery was beautiful and added to both the happy and sad moments in the movie.
The musical numbers stay strong in this version with a few new songs that you will love. When you purchase The Lion King, which is now available on digital, Blu-ray and DVD, you will want to pick up the new soundtrack too.
Some of the new features that you will want to know about that are Blu-ray bonus extras:
The Journey To The Lion King Documentary - Behind-The-Scenes Magic with the Filmmakers and Cast
More To Be Scene- Peel Back the Layers of Iconic Musical Moments
"Spirit" Beyonce Music Video
Song Selection- Sing Along with the Movie!
Audio Commentary- with Director Jon Favreau
