Southern Utah has some pretty incredible librarians and I am excited to tell you about all of them! They do so much for our kiddos and really provide a great service to all of Southern Utah. Today I want you to meet one of our Washington County Children's Librarians.

Meet Emily

Emily has worked for the Washington County Library System for 11 years and has been the Children's supervisor for almost three of those years! Emily loves working in the children's area and said, "I love it when a child asks for help finding a book and gets excited about the books I help them discover". I am going to add my two cents here, the Librarians LOVE helping your kids so don't be afraid to ask them for help. They often know the best books and will happily help your child find a book they haven't read before and can be a great resource.

Speaking of books, Emily's favorite children's book is The Monster Bed by Jeanne Willis. It’s about a little monster that is afraid to go to bed because he thinks humans will get him while he’s asleep. Emily loved reading that book to her daughter when she was small. I will be checking that one out for sure for my own daughter to read. Growing up, Emily's favorite books were The Little House on the Prairie series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Her mom would read a chapter every night. It took them a little while to get through all of them, because her mom would also tell stories about when she was growing up. When she was older, and able to, she read them again to herself.

Outside of work Emily loves reading, baking, and playing board games, card games, and video games! I think I would like hanging out with Emily after work, she is a seriously fun gal! On the weekend, her favorite thing to do it get together with her sisters to cook or bake and play games.

Let me let you in on a little secret! Emily, loves Halloween! It’s her favorite holiday and she normally dresses up in two different costumes every year! She wears one at the Library and a different one at home. You are all going to have to go to the Library carnival this year to see what she is wearing!

This specifically is for all of the children. I asked Emily if she could tell all the children in the world something, what it would be. She said, "Don’t give up if something is hard. If you can’t do it the first time you try, keep trying. If it’s something you really want, but it seems too hard, don’t just give up. Be tenacious! It’s a great quality to cultivate and will help you your entire life! (If you don’t know what tenacious means, ask someone or look it up. It will be a good start!)".

If you haven't met Emily, go visit her at the St. George Library Branch and ask her to help you find a book. She knows about all the good ones that no one knows about!
