We Love our Southern Utah Librarians: Meet Kay!

Kay is a Children's Librarian at the Hurricane Branch

By Gwendolyn Dattage August 12, 2019

Southern Utah has some pretty incredible Librarians and I am excited to tell you about all of them! They do so much for our kiddos and really provide a great service to all of Southern Utah. Today I want you to meet one of our Washington County Children's Librarians.

Meet Kay

Kay is a Librarian at the Hurricane Branch and has been a librarian for 24 years! That is incredible! I bet her book knowledge is amazing!

Her favorite book is Hooway for Wodney Wat by Lester. This book is about a little rat who finds strength from within and overcomes his shortcomings. I am excited to read this one to my own kiddos!

When I asked her what the Best thing about being a children's librarian was, she said, "Helping people find books that they love!" She is always around to help you find fun books, new and old and if you ask her, you are guaranteed to find a good one!

Outside of work Kay loves biking, hiking, playing the piano, road trips and of course, reading. On the weekend Kay also loves to work on her garden. Now I know who to go to for tips and tricks on growing a garden here in Southern Utah!

Something interesting about Kay, is that she likes to grow very large pumpkins. Her house sounds like a fun place to be in October! Next time you are at the library ask her how big the biggest pumpkin she ever grew was, and then let me know!

Kay's favorite childhood books were the Nancy Drew Series. For any of you who haven't read them, they are a fantastic mystery series for older kids. One of my favorites as well!

Ok kids, I asked Kay if she could tell you all just one thing, what would it be? She said, "Read a little every day--you will learn about the world!"

If you haven't met Kay, go visit her at the Hurricane Library Branch and ask her to help you find a book. She knows about all the good ones that no one knows about!
