We Love our Southern Utah Librarians: Meet Andrea!

Andrea is a Children's Librarian at the Santa Clara Branch

By Gwendolyn Dattage August 1, 2018

Southern Utah has some pretty incredible Librarians and I am excited to tell you about all of them! They do so much for our kiddos and really provide a great service to all of Southern Utah. Today I want you to meet one of our Washington County Children's Librarians.

Meet Andrea

Andrea has been a Children's Librarian since July, but has worked for the Washington County Library system for 6 1/2 years. She works in the Santa Clara Branch and loves it!

Andrea said that picking her favorite children's book was a hard question because she likes so many of them. But, if she had to pick just one, she would have to say Pete the Cat. He is just the grooviest cat around!

When asked what the best thing about being a children's librarian was, Andrea said,  "That I get to help children fall in love with books every single day! I love helping kids find "just the right book". It is even more exciting watching kids bring in their friends to show them exactly where the good books are and what programs the library has just for them." I love it when kids are excited to show their friends and siblings fun books that Andrea and the other children's librarians have picked out for them!

Outside of work she loves, reading, writing, boating, camping, and trying new recipes out. Yum! On the weekend she loves going to the movies with her family! They love going to see all kinds of movies and really love the popcorn!

This might be interesting to all of you book lovers! Once Andrea got grounded from books when she was young. Her mom noticed that sending her to my room didn't work because she would just get lost in a magical world inside her books. She didn't even want to leave her room because she wasn't done reading yet! Sounds like a few kiddos I know!

Growing up she loved The Baby Sitters Club series by Ann M. Martin! This series made her fall in love with books. She read all of them, and then started the series over again.

When asked what she would tell children everywhere, she said, "Read lots of different type of books! If you have not fallen in love with books and reading, you just have not found the right type of book yet! I heard a child explain (to her mom) why she needed to check out so many books. She said she had to take home a lot because if she didn't like one, then she could read another! That is exactly what you need to do to find your passion. Maybe its mystery books, maybe its the world of magic, maybe it is true stories (non-fiction), maybe it is books about animals, etc. There are so many different things to read about. Find your passion, read about it, and give it 100%."

If you haven't met Andrea, go visit her at the Santa Clara Library Branch and ask her to help you find a book. She knows about all the good ones that no one knows about!
