We Love our Southern Utah Librarians: Meet Gloria!

Gloria is a Children's Librarian at the Washington Branch

By Gwendolyn Dattage, August 1, 2018

Southern Utah has some pretty incredible Librarians and I am excited to tell you about all of them! They do so much for our kiddos and really provide a great service to all of Southern Utah. Today I want you to meet one of our Washington County Children's Librarians.

Meet Gloria

Gloria has I have been working in libraries for over 14 years, but 11 years working with children, which she loves. She currently works at the Washington Library Branch.

When asked her favorite book, Gloria said that was a hard decision to make. The one she kept going back to though was, What Was I Scared of? by Dr. Seuss. She loves the Dr. Seuss books and they seem to be a favorite of many kids.

Gloria loves two things about being a children's librarian. She loves story time and watching the children's faces as she reads them stories! They just get wrapped up in the story and enjoy every minute of it. She also loves recommending books to people. She loves to find just the right book for every reader.

Outside of work Gloria loves reading, obviously!  She also likes hiking, music, and playing video games. On the weekends she loves spending time with her family.

She has something that is not only interesting, but amazing about herself! She has done over 2000 story times! Can you even imagine that? Think about all the children that Gloria has touched over the years. I still remember some of the librarians that taught story time when I was a little girl.

Growing up Gloria had so many favorite books!  Some of them are The BFG by Roald Dahl, A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle, and the Nancy Drew series by Carolyn Keene.

The thing she would tell Children everywhere if she could is, "You can do anything with the right book.  Being able to read opens doors that would otherwise be closed.  Want to be a magician?  Read a book.  Want to learn how to code?  Read a book.  Want to figure out what it takes to be an astronaut?  Read a book."

If you haven't met Gloria, go visit her at the Washington Branch and ask her to help you find a book. She knows about all the good ones that no one knows about!
